How To Remove Sharpie Marker

A Sharpie marker is a tool that you can use to label just about anything. This permanent marker is popular in offices and schools. It can be used to write on paper, wood, glass and other surfaces. Sometimes, children have a tendency to play with a Sharpie marker and use it to draw on mirrors, furniture, walls and other surfaces. If this happens to you, follow the tips provided below to learn how to remove the Sharpie marker.

  • Nail polish remover. One of the things that you can use to remove the ink of a Sharpie marker is nail polish remover. Get a cotton ball and add a few drops of the nail polish remover. Wipe the Sharpie marker ink off with the cotton ball using a circular motion. You can also place a few drops of the nail polish remover directly on the surface where there is Sharpie ink. Allow the nail polish remover to set and you will see the ink start to mix with the nail polish remover. Wipe it off and the surface should be good as new.
  • WD-40. Another thing you can use to remove the Sharpie marker stains is WD-40. This will work on couches, floors, mirrors and walls. Spray a small amount of WD-40 on the area with the Sharpie ink. Get a clean rag or cloth and then work the WD-40 in the stain using a circular motion. The grease of the WD-40 will effectively get rid of the Sharpie stains. Afterwards, clean the area with another clean cloth or rag.
  • Whiteboard marker. If you have whiteboard marker or dry erase marker at home, you can use that to remove the stains from most surfaces. This method is most effective on glass, mirrors, vinyl floors and some wall surfaces. Get the whiteboard marker and use it to color over the Sharpie writing. Afterwards, get a clean cloth and wipe off the writing. The whiteboard marker writing and the Sharpie marker writing should come write off. If there are still marks left, just repeat the process until you get all the Sharpie marks off.
  • Toothpaste. Toothpaste is one of the items used to take some stains and scratches off some surfaces. Apply a dollop of toothpaste on the area where there is Sharpie writing. Rub the toothpaste on the writing using a circular motion with your fingers. After a while of rubbing, use clean cloth or rag to wipe off the toothpaste. Repeat the process until you get rid of all the Sharpie writing completely.

These are some of the methods that you can use in order to remove Sharpie marker stains on almost any surface. To prevent having stains in furniture or your walls and floors, avoid leaving Sharpie markers and other permanent markers in your home when your children are present. Instead, give them a whiteboard and dry erase markers that they can play with so that you do not have permanent marker writings all over the items in your home.
